How to add an accessibility widget to Wix

To add Octo Assist to Wix, open Settings in your site's dashboard, add your install code under Custom Code, and place it at Body – end on all pages. Wix custom code needs a published site with a connected domain. The button shows once your plan is active and that domain matches the one in your dashboard.
  • 4 steps
  • Copy and paste, no coding
  • Runs on every page

What do you need before you start?

  • A published Wix site with a connected domain. Wix needs a paid plan to connect a domain.
  • Access to your site's dashboard and settings.
  • Your site added in your Octo Assist dashboard under the connected domain, for example example.com (www.example.com works too).
  • An active Octo Assist plan. You can paste the code first, but the button only appears once a plan is active. See pricing.

How do you add Octo Assist to Wix?

  1. Step 1: Open Custom Code

With your code copied, go to Settings in your site's dashboard. Under Development & integrations, click Custom Code.

  2. Step 2: Add your code

Click + Add Custom Code at the top right and paste your code into the box. Give it a name you will recognize, such as Accessibility widget.

  3. Step 3: Choose pages and placement

Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages. Under Place Code in, choose Body – end.

  4. Step 4: Apply

Click Apply. Then open your published site to check the button. See Wix's guide to custom code for more on these settings.

How do you know it worked?

Open your live site in a private (incognito) window, so you see it the way a new visitor does. Look for the round button in the bottom right corner, or bottom left if you chose that in your dashboard. Click it, or press Alt+Shift+A (Option+Shift+A on a Mac), to open the panel, then turn on a tool such as Text size to check that the page changes. Check the published site, not the Wix Editor or Preview.

What if the button doesn't show up?

Why don't I see the button in the Wix Editor?

Check your published site instead. Open your live domain in a private window, because that is where visitors see the code you added in Settings.

Why did my custom code disappear?

Wix ties custom code to your site's domain. If you connect a different domain, Wix deletes the code snippets, so add the code again. Also update the domain in your dashboard to match.

Why doesn't the button show on my site?

Most often the address doesn't match. The widget only runs on the domain you added in your dashboard and its www version. Add your connected domain, such as example.com, not a free wixsite.com address. Your browser's console also shows a short note that says why the widget is hidden.

My dashboard says Needs a plan. Will the button show?

No. You can install the code before you choose a plan, but the button only appears once your plan is active. Choose a plan on the Billing page of your dashboard, then reload your site.
